Penn Summer Science Academy 2000In conjunction with the College of General Studies at PENN, the LRSM, under the direction of Prof. Charles Graham, MSE and Dr. Andrew McGhie, has developed a one-month-long intensive course in Materials Science for high school science students. This course complements existing course offerings that include Environmental Science, Mathematics and Molecular Biology. The course incorporates daily lectures in materials science, computer instruction on data acquisition, scientific analysis and report preparation, topical study groups on Issues in Science, laboratory experiments on materials properties and characterization using the Shared Experimental Facilities of the LRSM, and weekly site visits to both industrial laboratories and advanced facilities at the University. Both resident and commuting students have been accepted and were drawn from a national pool of SAT participants. This course will be held at the University of Pennsylvania, July 10 - August 4, 2000.
